EXCERPT

“Izzy, please. Be reasonable.”

I loved when James begged. “Say it again,” I taunted him.

What the fuck with the be reasonable comment? I’m always reasonable. Okay, maybe that isn’t entirely true. I usually shoot from the hip and save the apologies for later. My big mouth has gotten me into more trouble over the years, and much of it I try to forget, especially when it comes to James.

He arched an eyebrow, and the same shitty smirk that I’d grown accustomed to flashed across his lips. “I could make you say yes.”

“Doubtful.” I glared at him, feeling supercocky even though I was in no position to be.

James, my loving husband of over ten years, decided that tonight was a good time to tie me to the bed. I should’ve known he was up to no good because it’d been more than a little bit since he’d used restraints during sex. I figured we were just getting our kink on and that he wanted to try something new, but nope, the bastard knew I wouldn’t like what he was asking and made sure I didn’t have an out.

“Baby,” he whispered, running his thumbs across my bottom lip and trying to seduce me. “You know you can’t say no to me. Never have and never will.”

There were very few people in this world that could make me do anything, but James had a power over me since the first night I met him. Saying no to him had always been damn near impossible, and I almost hated myself because of it.

I never wanted to be that girl—the one who caved to anything her husband asked. Never in my life had I wanted to be her, an easy mark and a carpet for her husband to walk all over, but things don’t always turn out the way we plan. I learned that the hard way.

James wasn’t even on my radar until the night of Joe and Suzy’s wedding when he sauntered in with his good looks and charm. The arrogant bastard seemed to work me like he’d known me my entire life, and I fell for it.

I thought I’d won when I snuck out. I figured I’d never see him again, so what did it matter. Boy, was I wrong.

“I’ve said no to you plenty of times.” I refused to let him use his sexual prowess, which I’d done in the past, but sometimes I had to dig my heels in and find my inner bitch.

I pulled at the restraints and tried to break free, but it was useless. The man could tie the most wicked knots, and it had been years since I’d been able to wiggle out of them. Every time I escaped, he’d learn a new technique until he found just the right one to render me helpless.

His lips scorched a path down my neck, and my back arched as if begging for his touch. “Say yes, Izzy.”

I stifled the moan that formed low in my throat, but I squeaked instead when he sucked my nipple into his mouth. My body rocked on its own, moving toward him instinctively, wanting the bite of his teeth. His hand slid down my front, cupping my pussy, not hard enough to give me pleasure, only the sweet torment that he reveled in.

“Say yes, and I’ll give you what you want.”

He was playing with me. James was a master manipulator. I didn’t know if it was his background with the DEA or just something he was born with, but he used it perfectly when it suited his purpose.

I clenched my jaw, grinding my teeth together. “No.”

He pulled my panties to the side before dipping two fingers inside me with the most sinful smile. “Last chance, baby,” he warned.

What was he going to do to me if I didn’t give in? The thought passed through my mind, but I pushed it away. I was lost in the feel of his hands on my skin and the ache between my legs, but my resistance held. “No,” I bit out.

Don’t forget to catch up with the Men of Inked series today and be ready for Worship Me on May 9th!

Werewolves of Chicago: Howard:
New Release Sale and Kindle Fire Giveaway Blitz!

Not every wolf gets a cool name. some of them have to earn it. An action-packed tale of courage, love, good vs. evil, and leaps of faith.

In the wake of taking down the Russian mafia, runt wolf Howard has finally come into his own. And now that he’s falling for a blue-haired girl, he has to discover what it means to be powerful before facing the greatest challenge of all, his past.

Bonus Content: the novel Werewolves of Chicago: Curragh is included in this Limited Release eBook Edition. Available in Kindle Unlimited or on sale for .99 during this blitz.

FROM THE BOOK

Who am I trying to kid?

I slow down as I near the end.

“HOWARD!!” Xavier yells, pissed off.

I grab onto the chain-link fence and bend over, panting and humiliated. “I can’t.”

Draik mutters really quietly, “He can’t do it,” so I know I wasn’t meant to hear it. And the thing is, had it been a couple months ago, I wouldn’t have been able to. But I did hear it. And it makes me angry.

He. Can’t. Do. It. All my life I’ve been hearing that. My whole fucking life.

A heat launches into me. One I’ve not felt since that night at Kruglov’s, and never before then. I don’t have a name for it because it’s foreign, but it feels like there is literal fire in my chest as a voice inside my guts says, I can and I will.

The dirty fence clatters behind me as I push off from it, running with gaining speed. My hair starts to tingle, wind whipping though it. The exposed parts of my skin feel cold from the sudden sting of the chilled night air. My muscles come alive, burning and expanding like they’re growing with every hit to the sidewalk even though my feet feel separate from me. I let go of my mind and allow my body to show me what it can do. My arms pound back and forth, maintaining my balance. I start to make a sound I’ve never made.

I hear Xavier say, “That’s it,” from a faraway place. “He’s feeling it.”

I make it to the fence, whip around and race back in the other direction, pushing myself to cut however little time that took, in half. My chest feels like it’s going to explode in volcanic ash.

I’m pure energy. Possibility. I’m ALIVE.

I run so fast that, unable to stop my velocity, I hit the fence with a loud SLAM.

Falling in a heap on the ground, I begin to laugh.

Draik and Xavier stroll up to loom over me, and I’m still laughing. They’ve got grins on their faces bigger than I’ve ever seen.

“You found it,” Xavier says.

I pant, “What? What did I find?” smiling wide.

Draik tips his head up. “Courage.”

AN INTERESTING BIT ABOUT HOW THIS BOOK CAME ABOUT, by AUTHOR FALEENA HOPKINS

I’ve written seventeen novels, and six of them are about werewolves. In my books it’s real life. The world does not know they exist. But they do. Never did I anticipate writing about a wolf named Howard. But there he was, showing up in Werewolves of Chicago: Curragh (also included in this one download for a limited time, since you really should read it first). Howard was then a scrawny wolf who just wanted to play with the big boys, and who they called upon for help since he’s a doctor. Then from out of nowhere he did something so brave that he grew into the wolf he was always meant to be – one like them. All muscle and power. I never planned that. I don’t plan plots and never know where a story is going or how it will end, when I begin it. After releasing Curragh’s book, fans wanted to know more about this sweet, unassuming and courageous wolf, as did I. Werewolves of Chicago: Howard was born.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR

“The first book I ever wrote I tied with yarn, illustrated with crayon, and sold to my parents for a buck. I was about five years old. Ever since, stories of love and redemption have always struck a cord in me.” An actress and director, too, Faleena Hopkins currently lives in Atlanta, GA, where she loves the unpredictable weather patterns after having lived in LA for twenty years. “Last night a thunder storm, today 75 degrees, tomorrow snowflakes drifting in the night sky. Tell me your deepest, darkest secrets. I dare you.

Addiction comes down to one simple, primitive concept. Desire.

My name is Dr. Dixon Mathews, and I’m New York’s finest shrink. For $500 an hour, people tell me their darkest, most sinful secrets.

My own addiction? Sex.

I might be certified in solving other people’s problems, but not mine –
I know I’m a lost cause. I don’t do relationships. I don’t even do the same woman twice.

But that’s all about to change, thanks to two entirely different women who awaken my deepest desires.

Who will I choose?

I know who I should choose, but I never said I was the hero of this story, or even the good guy. And besides, who wants to be good, when it feels so good being bad?

My tale isn’t for the faint-hearted. If you’re game, strap yourself in and expect the unexpected. But don’t say I didn’t warn you…

Achingly sexy and highly addictive, the first in the Sinful Pleasures Series will have you hooked. Driven to Sin coming very soon…

I live outside Washington, D.C. with my wonderfully supportive husband and two daughters, one of which is approaching her teenage years. Help us all! If that isn’t enough, we have a Great Dane and an English Bulldog to keep us on our toes. It’s crazy around here and I love every minute of it!

Writing is my third career. I didn’t set out to be a writer, it was just meant to be. My Mechanical Engineering degree from Virginia Tech prepared me well for my first career as an Engineer/Program Manager. My second career was in Human Resources. Long story, but I figured it out. I believe the best start for a writing career is to be a reader first and I’ve been an avid reader my whole life. I’ve loved to read ever since I picked up my first Nancy Drew mystery in the fourth grade. Now I love reading just about everything, but I don’t read sad books and I don’t watch sad movies either for that matter, no matter how many awards they’ve won. Life’s too short and who needs all that strife to bring us down?

Many of my words have been penned late into the evening, which explains why I’ve never viewed whatever television show you recommend to me. I would, however, love to hear your recommendations for a great read!

Excerpt:
He glanced
at her silhouette. She stood beside him quietly, a tear streaking her pale
face, one silver line visible against the cold wintery night.
“Will you
dance with me?” Abaddon said, turning her back to face him.
Ally spoke
with her body. She shivered as she turned to him, reaching out and lacing her
fingers through his.
Abaddon
responded by pulling her close against him, removing his hands from hers so he
could wrap them around her, holding her tight and praying for the courage to
see his task through.
The Seraph
told him, told him what he must do. In his broken mind, the pieces lay jagged
and strewn, but he was putting them together, regaining the memories he’d lost
through the blinding rage of his illusion.
But Ally was
real. He was holding her in his arms, and she came to him with trust, with
patience, while he tried to regain the memories from his human life, ones that
would guide him on the path he was supposed to be on now.
But as he
held her in his arms, she felt so fragile, so breakable. He could hear the soft
thrumming of her heart. The beat was uneven, a rhythm that reminded him of the
last remnants of life.
Ally was
dying. She was his soulmate and the beat of her heart gave him all the courage
he needed. He wasn’t going to kill her. He was going to save her.
Abaddon
slowly broke away from her, keeping her at arm’s length. Her light was dimming,
but there was the faintest glimmer in her eyes that held hope for him. She
would be strong enough to endure what he was getting ready to do to her. She
had to be.
Abaddon
brought his wrist up to his mouth, extended his canines and pierced his flesh.
As blood rushed up to the surface, he gazed into her eyes.
He parted
his lips, ready to speak, to tell her it would be okay, but was silenced by
Ally resting a single finger against his lips.
“Shh,” Ally
whispered.
Her gaze
told him that she knew what was happening. She wouldn’t fight him. He could see
that she would trust him, blindly put all her faith in him, was truly ready to
walk down an unknown path with him.
He watched
in awe as she circled her cold fingers around his wrist and brought it up to
her lips. She locked gazes with him and he could feel her taking his essence
into him. She ended by gently kissing his wrist where the wound was. She swept
her hair to one side, exposing her neck up at him.
Abaddon felt
a warm tear run down his cheek.
“It’s okay,
Michael,” Ally said, her voice so little. “I’m ready.”
He unfurled
his wings, pulled her against him tightly, lowered his lips to hers, and in his
mind he whispered the words from a song, a song from a long time ago that meant
so much to him then and even more to him now.
“I’ve waited
such a long time for you,” he said. He softly caressed her lips with his,
savoring the feel of her against him, the kiss he’d waited a lifetime and
beyond for.
He raised
his gaze back to hers, brushing a wisp of hair away from her eyes, cupping her
face. “A lifetime,” he said, as he brushed soft kisses along her temple, her
cheek, her jawline, back to her trembling lips. Thinking back to that night
long ago, he lived the words of that song, held nothing back for what he felt
for her.
Abaddon
could see the tears standing in her eyes. He kissed them away, their salt
lingering on his lips. He drew her closer into him so that he could feel she
was real, she was in his arms, her life in his hands.
And through
her tears, he could see the relief, he could see the hope, he could see her love
staring back at him. His heart hammered in his chest, that muscle giving way to
a new life, a life that only love could give.
He brushed
his lips against hers again and again, whispering those lyrics so appropriate
for them, for their life, their death, their love against a world that, like
her essence, was fading fast. “You’ll always be mine.”
With shaky
hands, Abaddon pulled her down to the ground with him. Cradling her in his lap,
he grazed his canines against her throat. “I need you,” Abaddon whispered, as
Ally laced her fingers through his hair, pulling him down to her vein. She
arched her back, pressed up against him, encouraged him to drink from her, to
take her to where he’d been.
Abaddon
exhaled against her skin. With one hand holding her head and the other pressed
firmly into the small of her back, he pierced her, sunk his teeth into the soft
flesh at her neck. He took her into him, her blood coursing through him, sating
a hunger for far more than sustenance. In her blood was the story of their
life, the answers he sought, the lyrics to their own song.
Abaddon
could feel the life slowly fade from her, could hear her heartbeat slow.
Removing his canines, he drew back from her. Her head lolled to the side, her
pupils beginning to fix. He brought her lips back to his, kissed her gently.
As Ally’s
last breath escaped her body, Abaddon clutched her tightly to his chest, a
crimson tear falling against her, he whispered into her ear, “Hurry back to
me.”
