Why you should Read More Romance

Why You Should Read More Romance

There’s nothing quite like curling up in a comfy chair with a glass of wine and a good romance novel. For some it’s a rare guilty-pleasure; for others it’s an envy-inducing routine; but few realize that reading a good romance novel is also a great way to better your sex life in addition to your emotional and mental well-being.

Take a look at a few of the added perks that passionate paperbacks have to offer.

They Can Spur Your Creativity

One of the most obvious perks of reading romance novels is the exposure to new romantic scenarios. Did a particular chapter have you pining for candlelit dinner? Maybe there was one passage that kept you dreaming about a new position for days. If so, put your newly found interests to good use with your partner!

As WebMD.com explains, the old “use it or lose it” motto is actually pretty accurate when it comes to sexual desire. This means that having sex makes you want it even more, while not having sex makes you desire it less.

Reading romance novels can give you the encouraging push you need to heat things up again. After a few new adventurous undertakings in the bedroom (or elsewhere), you might not be able to keep your hands off one another!

They Help You Gain New Perspective

Sometimes people don’t realize the limited perspectives they have access to in life. Friends and family, although with good intentions, usually reinforce our own views, and it can be difficult to see things outside our own mindset. Reading romance novels provides a unique opportunity to gain empathy for your partner, because you can relate the experiences you read about to situations in your own relationship. By getting an inside look at how other couples interact and feel, you may be able to communicate more effectively with your loved one.

There are even books that have started taking this perk to another level for readers. If you’ve read the popular E.L. James novel, Fifty Shades of Grey (and really, who hasn’t at this point), then there’s a lot to be gained from reading her newest installment to the series, Grey. As explained in the description from AdamEve.com, this novel follows the same storyline of the first, but it is told from the perspective of Christian Grey, rather than Anastasia Steele. By reading both novels, you can learn the different ways each partner sees certain situations and possibly gain insight to the different views your own partner has.

They Can Better Your Overall Health

In addition to the impact romance novels can have on your sexual health, they can also serve to better your cognitive health. According to an article from RD.com, reading romance novels satisfies much more than just your mental need for entertainment. They cited a particular study from Rush University Medical Center that proved that “Adults who spent their downtime doing creative or intellectual activities (like reading) had a 32 percent slower rate of cognitive decline later in life than those who did not.”

They also stated that reading could reduce stress, boost your vocabulary, and help strengthen your memory.

What can’t these novels accomplish?

Romance novels have become much more mainstream in the last few years. However, on the rare occasion that someone still gives you a hard time for indulging in a passionate paperback, just brush it off and remember: Your mind, body, and sex life are much better off.

Blog Post: 1/17/15

My name is Kayla and I’m a blogger who believes in fairy tales. Through the anonymity of my blog, along with my reviews of the steamy novels I like to read, I tell the stories of my own search for love. No matter how disastrous they turn out—and believe me, you will ask yourself ‘Did that really happen?’—I never gave up, knowing my soul mate was out there somewhere.
When my big brother invited me to move to Houston for a semester of college, I jumped at the opportunity to leave my small hometown to see what it was like to live in a big city. Having no friends and not knowing where to go, I met a guy online and met up with him that night. Because…YOLO, right?
Turns out, he was an okay guy. Not ‘The One’, but still, a good enough guy to spend time with. But then, he introduced me to his best friend Jason, and my world tilted on its axis. The dark, tough, tatted-up guy, who was too broody for his own good, captivated me.
But he made it perfectly clear, I wasn’t his type.

IMPORTANT NOTE FROM THE AUTHOR:
The Blogger Diaries Trilogy is the true story of how I met, fell for, lost, and got a
second chance at love with my soul mate. The names of everyone EXCEPT me, Jason, my family, and my best friend have been changed to protect their identities. Full of youthful stupidity, leading to bad decisions and lots of angst, it is a real life story, where inevitably things are messy.
No one can look back at their late teens and early twenties and not think of moments that make them ask, What the hell was I thinking? Every second of this trilogy is true, exactly as it happened.
The first book, ‘Wished For You’, is a tale of finding ‘the one’ too early, and then having to let them go.
PLEASE NOTE: This is a true trilogy, meaning the first two books END ON CLIFFHANGERS. But if you take the journey with me, in the end, I promise you a happily ever after you will never forget.
I know I won’t.

Blog Post 8/21/15

Heartbroken and devastated, I moved back home to North Carolina after the man I loved more than anything told me he didn’t want me anymore.
After my disastrous dating history, I had finally found the one, my soul mate, and then he just threw me away like I meant nothing to him. So, what was I supposed to do now?
I did what any woman who had her heart ripped to shreds would do. I rebounded. And I rebounded hard.
My life spun and progressed at whirlwind speed as I tried desperately to fill the hole Jason had left inside me.
I had myself fooled for a while there, until the newness of everything wore off, until the whirlwind slowed to a grinding halt and I was forced to stop and realize exactly what I’d done. I suppose I could’ve trained myself to be content with Aiden, but all I did was…
Wish He Was You

This is book 2 in the Blogger Diaries Trilogy. It CANNOT be read as a standalone. Please read book 1, Wished for You, before beginning this continuation of the story.

Stalk the Author:
KD Robichaux wanted to be a romance author since the first time she picked up her mom’s Sandra Brown books at the ripe old age of twelve. She went to college to become a writer, but then married and had babies. Putting her dream job on hold to raise her family as a stay at home mom, who read entirely too much, she created a blog where she could keep her family and friends up-to-date on all the hottest reads. From there, by word of mouth, her blog took off and she began using her hard-earned degree as a Senior Editor for Hot Tree Editing. When her kids started school, and with the encouragement from her many author friends, she finally sat down and started working on her first series, The Blogger Diaries, her very own real life romance.

Excerpt:

“Welcome,
Eternity.” His voice has a deep baritone, and it seems to vibrate deep in my
bones. “Please come and take a seat.” His tone holds no room for argument and I
find my feet taking me to sit in the chair across from him before my brain
registers the motion. “I’m going to tell you how things work here. I don’t want
you to speak. You will hear me out, and I will answer any questions you have
after I’ve finished. Do you understand?” I nod my head, too afraid to speak.
This man is pure evil. It emanates from him in dark clouds, covering me in
shadows. He seems to loom over me but that’s impossible; he’s five feet away
from me.
“I’m going to
tell you a story. This is your story. When I’ve finished it, you will
understand what we expect of you. Okay?” At my nod, he begins my story. “A long
time ago, your father approached me. He made a deal with me, and you were the
promise. You became club property, but this deal had conditions. I accepted all
your father’s conditions and everything was running smoothly. That was, until
you fucking disappeared. Vanished into thin air,” he says. Black Eyes takes a
deep breath through his nose, and his jaw clenches tightly. “That deal was
broken the minute you went underground. When you resurfaced, I came for what
was mine.”
I try to
process his words. If what he’s saying is the truth, then Carlos was right. My
daddy did sell me. But he thinks I’ve been underground, whatever that means. If
it means what I think it does, then he is crazy. This isn’t some mob story.
This is my life.
“What was–” I
don’t get to finish my question. Black Eyes stands, knocking his leather seat
back against the wall. He slams his hands on his desk, and the noise bounces
around the room, echoing. I hold my breath and wait for him to speak.
“I said you
speak when I’ve fucking finished. You said you understood. If you don’t, little
girl, then I will make you understand. I’ll fucking gag you. Keep your mouth
shut, otherwise I’ll make you. We clear?” he growls. His voice rises, anger
lacing his words. My breath hitches, but I remain silent. “Good girl,” he says
in a calmer voice. “Illicit Angels is exactly what it implies in the title.
Rich men pay an exorbitant amount of money to fuck beautiful girls – beautiful
Angels, to be more precise. It’s indecent. It’s immoral. It’s illicit.”
“Rich men buy
their way in but, occasionally, we allow a promise. A promise is a sale. We get
the gift of a new girl. They gain entry. When a promise is broken, we end that
promise. A long time ago, you should have been taken out. Wiped out,” he
hisses. “You disappeared before that could happen. Now that you’re back in our
clutches and I can see your potential, there are a few choices to make,
Eternity. You see, I want that promise back, but a new deal had to be struck. I
can’t just take a promise back. It would be bad for business. In this life, you
should already be dead.”
My brain swirls
with questions, but I’m frozen. Stuck in his story. What choices are there? My
daddy wanted into this club? He wanted to cheat on my mum? Why would he want to
come here? Surely, if he wanted to cheat, then he could have picked up a
mistress. He didn’t need to sell me. He chose to. Hate and hurt
ripples through my veins, hot and swift.
“You get six
months before you’re claimed, Eternity,” Black Eyes says, drawing my attention
back to him. “Six months to make a good impression. You can’t be a promise, but
you can be a new Angel. For the first month, the bidders can only look
at you and touch bare skin. The next two months, they can taste you. Give you
untold pleasure,” he says nonchalantly. Black Eyes speaks as if we’re
discussing the bloody weather, and his cool demeanour makes me want to scream. I
don’t want goddamn pleasure.
“The following three months they can give and
receive pleasure. They’ll teach you how they like it and you will learn
to submit to their every demand. Their every need. At the six-month mark, they
will bid. The winning bidder will own you. You will become theirs to control,
theirs to use, theirs to do with as they damn well please. I’m sure their first
order of business will be to strip you of your virginity. That little lining
inside will make you pussy gold. They’ll pay a pretty penny for you. There is
one slight problem. Your promise wants you, and it seems he’s willing to stake
his claim now. You have six months to make your decision, Eternity. You can
persuade a bidder to want you enough to go up against Justice, or you can face
the man himself and accept your fate. Justice won’t let you go. He’ll fight
until you’re his. You have to decide which route to follow. Both will result in
you being Justice’s, but you can fight for something better. I’m not sure
you’re strong enough to withstand Justice’s darkness.”
Once he’s finished talking, he just stares at
me, captivating me with his pitch black eyes. I want to speak, but I’m not sure
if he’s testing me so I stay quiet. Black Eye’s smirks and nods his head.
“Good girl,” he
praises. It was a test! “Do you understand what is to happen over the
next six months?” I nod my head but still don’t say a word. “Do you accept these
terms?” Black clouds swamp my mind. This is all too much. I don’t want any of
this. I didn’t choose any of this, and I won’t accept it. But I’m too scared to
answer him. A chill darts down my spine when anger twists his face at my
non-response, and a frisson of fear, cold and brewing, unfurls in my stomach.
“Do. You. Accept. These. Fucking. Terms?” he spits, each word separated and
angry. When I still don’t answer, he storms around his desk to stand beside me.
I flinch, expecting a blow, but none comes. I peek up at him and find him
panting in rage. “Speak,” he growls.
“What if…” I
pause, clearing my throat. My mouth is dry and terror is overwhelming me. “What
if I don’t accept?” I ask, hesitantly. Black Eyes laughs at me, a sparkle of
delight fills his soulless gaze.
“Well, here is
your problem. I was made a promise, and that promise wasn’t fulfilled. I want
the debt paid. I was promised a daughter, and I’m going to have one. I know
Rivera has two daughters,” he drawls, pausing to let his words sink in. My eyes
widen when I get where he’s going with this. I shake my head. This can’t be
happening.
“Little Nevaeh is acceptable as payment, but I thought you would
want to accept the fate your father gave you rather than subject your baby
sister to it. I’m more than happy to have Nevaeh in your place if you don’t
accept.”
“No,” I gasp.
Emotion, swift and violent, rushes through me. I’ve spent the last four years
protecting my sister. I won’t let it all be for nothing. “I’ll do it,” I weep.
“I’ll stay.”
“I thought you
might,” he replies, smugly. “Now you just have to decide if you’re going to
fight for your place or be consumed by Justice.”
“Who is
Justice?” I whisper, brokenly.
“He’s someone
who will destroy you, little girl. You’re not strong enough to be with him.
Justice will swallow you whole.”
“Why?” I choke.

“Because you
made him feel,” he empathises. “But I can see you’re not strong enough.
If you break at this point, then you are too weak to go against him.”

5 Star review

Well I’ve enjoyed all of Holly ‘s previous books ,but this one was written in a completely different direction to her others . I wasn’t sure what to expect . Well what can I say other than ‘when is book two out’ . Loved it from beginning to end , you could feel both of their pain on the decisions life had put in front of them .not sure where to go who to turn too, yet she came through it all and is still fighting. What a roller coaster ride she had ,then after all those years she meets a man who seems to care about her ,like no one has for such a long time ,only to find he was the someone she had to run away from ,frightened he would disown her like her mother did . Bringing her mother to mind as someone I would like to disown , treating her daughter the way she did ,leaving her homeless , helpless on the streets vulnerable .while she carries on leading a normal life .. what amazes me is they all feel there suffering more ! They haven’t lived the life of hell she has ,quitting her family ,giving something precious up ..well without telling you the whole story , this was a book I enjoyed from beginning till end ….

Starry Knight by Nina Mason

Today, we are featuring Starry Knight by Nina Mason, the author of The Queen of Swords and Devil in Duke’s Clothing, among other books. Starry Knight is Ms. Mason’s fifth novel and the first in a new erotic paranormal/urban fantasy series titled The Knights of Avalon. The series–which combines paranormal and occult elements with Celtic and Arthurian legend–tells the story of four “knights” under the spell of the evil faery queen Morgan Le Fay.
Can these star-crossed lovers bridge two worlds?

British aristocrat Vanessa Bentley has beauty, fame, and fortune, but
she gets no respect for her decision to become a paranormal
investigator. Determined to prove the naysayers wrong, Vanessa ventures
to the misty moors of Caithness, Scotland. There stands the immense
Castle Barrogill, where a vampire is rumored to be stalking the
dungeons—a vampire Vanessa is determined to find. She’ll just have to
get past the resident shape-shifter…
Callum Lyon is the gorgeous reclusive astrologer and faery knight who guards the castle. For free-spirited Vanessa, seducing him proves to be easy. After all, he was once a breeding drone to a Queen. But astrologically, their differences are harder to overcome. Will Vanessa’s mission—and Callum’s secrets—be more than their burgeoning love can take? Or will flesh—and blood—win
over the ghosts that haunt them both? ….

Here’s where you can find the trailer on Youtube:

Here’s an excerpt:

In
this scene, the hero, a centuries-old faery knight whose life has been devoid
of romance, is doing his best to woo Lady Vanessa, a free-spirited “poor little
rich girl” and paranormal investigator who, unbeknownst to him, is using sex to
gain access to his castle. He’s spent the day showing her around Caithness and,
in the midst of a sunset stroll on the beach, has suggested they take shelter
from the wind in a nearby cave.
Callum got to his feet, took
Vanessa’s hand, and pulled her across the dunes toward the cliffs. She couldn’t
see the entrance to the cave until he swept back a curtain of vines. She
followed him through the narrow entrance, holding tightly to his hand. The
interior was cool, dark, and smelled a bit fishy, but not offensively so.
Stepping in front of her, he put a
hand on her chin and lifted her gaze to his. The spark between them was
palpable and she longed for him to kiss her. She licked her lips invitingly,
hoping he’d take the hint.
“You’re very bonny, mo dearbadan-de,” he said softly,
seductively, as he brushed back a wayward strand of her hair.
“What did you just call me?”
“My butterfly,” he said, “in
Gaelic.”
She put her arms around his neck
and offered him her mouth. He accepted, nibbling and flicking his tongue
against her lips. She pulled the band from his ponytail, freeing his windblown
mane. As it tumbled around his shoulders, she wove her fingers among its silky
strands, pressing his mouth harder against hers.
When he offered his tongue, she
greeted it with her own. He moaned—a deep, needful sound that dumped accelerant
on her desire. She thrust her hips against him, finding him as aroused as she
was. He pushed back, grinding against her as he walked her backward toward the
wall of the cave. As her back met rough rock, warm fingers came under her
blouse, climbed her ribs, and pushed under her bra. As he teased her nipples,
something deep in her core turned all soft and molten.
She was air, he fire, and right
now, she wanted his light and heat, wanted him to consume her in a crackling
blaze.
He broke out of the kiss, moved his
mouth to her ear, and nibbled the lobe. She grew weak in the knees as his
tongue traced the sensitive inner folds.
“Why do you run away from love, mo dearbadan-de?” he whispered huskily.
“Do you see it as a trap?”
“More a fraud than a trap.”
“And sex isn’t?”
“With sex, you know what you’re
getting.”
“And when it’s over, you’ve got
nothing.”
“How is love different?”
“I don’t know,” he said, “having
never felt it.”
“We’re alike in that,” she said, “but from what I’ve observed, it’s a mirage people only chase because they feel
incomplete within themselves.”
Taking her face between his hands,
he trained her in his riveting gaze. “Do you truly believe that?”
“Yes.”
He let her go, turned his back, and
stepped away. For the longest time, he stood there, just out of reach, saying
nothing. Then, as suddenly as he’d turned his back, he rounded on her with eyes
like yellow coals. “Tell me, Madame Butterfly. Who made you feel so unlovable?”
The question impaled her like a
red-hot spike. Damn him for asking it, for digging so deep, for skewering her
with his probe. She suddenly felt ridiculous, like some poor little rich girl.
She’d been born into wealth and privilege. What right did she have to be
unhappy? So what if her parents didn’t love her or she had no true friends.
Boo-fucking-hoo.
Get over yourself.
What right did she have to wallow
in self-pity when children were starving, people were dying of Ebola, and the
planet was being raped on a daily basis? She deserved no compassion, despite
the searing wound she did her best to ignore.
“I have no idea what you’re talking
about,” she said in a voice that sounded faint and faraway under the
blood-thunder in her ears.
“No? Then why have you closed your
heart?”
Defiance bubbled in her heart like
hot tar. Damn him for trying to get past the battlements she’d spent years
erecting hurt by hurt and brick by brick. If anything, she should build her
walls higher where this bedeviling baron was concerned, not let him wear them
down like rain.
“Did you bring me in here to
psychoanalyze me?”
“No,” he whispered, the heat of his
breath caressing, soothing. His hand glided purposefully down her body and
pushed between her legs. As he stimulated her through her knickers, she threw
back her head and expelled a soft sigh—of pleasure and relief. A rapacious
lover, she was equal to. A probing one, not so much.
As he stroked her through the satin
crotch of her knickers, desire fluttered in her abdomen like an injured bird.
He’d struck too close to home. She’d didn’t feel loveable because she’d never
felt loved. Not for one single, solitary moment of her entire privileged life.
She’d had a chain of nannies who believed children should be seen but not heard
before being packed off to boarding school where she was treated with equal
detachment. Her parents, in short, had hired others to raise her—no, make that train her. In their eyes, she was a hunk
of clay to be molded, not a human being to be nurtured. How disappointed they
must have been when they got an outspoken nonconformist in place of the pretty
marionette they’d paid for.
Callum’s finger came inside her
knickers and began to circle her clitoris, smothering her bitterness in the
syrup of pleasure. The orgasm charged and retreated, charged and retreated, and
then finally exploded in a heavenly cascade.
Setting his hands on the wall on
either side of her head, he docked his forehead against hers and said, “I’d
rather chase the mirage than die alone without hope in the desert.”

Here’s a little more about the series from the author:

The Knights of Avalon, the four-part erotic PNR/UF series
Starry Knight launches, was born of a simple idea: to write a series
incorporating different forms of divination. From that kernel grew the far more
complex world of the series. The “knights” of Avalon, the enchanted otherworld
isle featured in Arthurian and Celtic legend, were Scottish noblemen who, after
falling in battle, were taken by the fairies to serve as breeding drones to
their queen. Each of the four books in the series tells the story of a
particular knight and the heroine whose love saves him from his unhappy
existence.

Each knight grapples with a different relationship
with Morgan Le Fay, the cruel and selfish queen of Avalon. Callum Lyon, the hero
of Starry Knight (book one), is free of Morgan’s influence, having escaped enslavement
after faking his own death. Leith MacQuill, the hero of Dark and Stormy Knight
(book two), was expelled from Avalon after the queen discovered his amour with
one of her scouts. In book three, which I’ve yet to write, Axel Lochlann, a
rune-casting Scot of Viking descent, guards the portal between Hitherworld (our
realm) and Thitherworld (the otherworldly realm).  The fourth knight, Finn MacKnight, doesn’t know what he is or that he’s destined to fulfill an ancient prophecy telling of the queen’s overthrow by a “natural-born” drone. Because of this prophecy, Morgan kills all the male children she bears and punishes the knights who
father them

Avalonian knights are vampire-like, but not vampires per se. Members of the Unseelie Fae, they drink blood and can assume the form
of any creature they choose, but generally take the form of a particular animal to hunt. Callum’s preferred form is a lion, Leith’s is a Kellas Cat, Axel’s is a gyrfalcon, and Finn’s is a jaguar.
Astrology is the new-age element featured in Starry Knight (hence the name). Callum, the court astrologer to King James IV, fell in
battle in 1513, after warning the king the stars did not favor the invasion of England. Ignoring Callum’s advice proved costly to the king and his astrologer.
In modern times, Callum lives in the northernmost county of Scotland as a reclusive political astrologer. The heroine, a
free-spirited English aristocrat named Vanessa Bentley, comes to Caithness with the goal of getting inside Barrogill Castle. She’s just finished her training as a paranormal investigator and the London paparazzi have been giving her a
hard time. Legend has it a vampire lives at Callum’s castle, so she decides to seduce the gorgeous, golden-haired baron to gain entry to his otherwise inaccessible abode. Needless to say, both get a lot more than hot sex (but also plenty of
that!) from the bargain they strike.
Tarot cards, voodoo, ghosts, and the more
traditional form of vampire also play roles in the plot. I hope readers enjoy Starry Knight and the rest of the series as much as I have enjoyed writing it!

Nico are growing stronger as a power couple and that is causing some feelings
