Author Kim Blacks Interview by Lisa Walker

Can you tell us your name and a bit about yourself?
My name is Kim Black and I am an Erotic Romance Author. I currently have to books out which are apart of The Cover Series. The first book, Discovered, was released in December of 2013 and the second, Cover Up, was recently released in May 2014. I am 28 years old and I am engaged to a wonderful man. I love providing stories that make my readers fall in love with the characters.
When and why did you begin writing?
I can not remember a time where I was writing something to be quite honest. At a very young age I began writing poems until I slowly moved into short stories in High School. I decided to take a chance and publish a novel last year, thinking that I would finally put my dreams of becoming a published author a reality.
What inspired you to write your first book?
I love the initial feeling you get when you first meet a guy. The butterflies in your stomach. The anxiety you feel when you wonder if he is going to call and the electric currents we experience when he hold you, touch you, love you. I wanted to give that to my readers through my books.
How did you come up with the title of your book or series?
The Cover Series was born though much sleepless nights lol Though my genre is technically erotic romance, my book provide a lot of angst and drama. The suspense in my books, leave you completely on edge and this series has a lot of secrets and cover ups. Thus, The Cover Series seemed to be the best fit.
Who is your intended audience and why should they read your book?
My audience should definitely be 18 and up. The scenes are sexually graphic and packed with steamy love making. lol Anyone looking to get hot and bothered will love my series. Anyone looking for a story that is never predictable, this is the series for you!
Who is your favorite character from your book and why?
I love love Suzie even though she is not the main character. Her personality is straight forward, no bs, tell it like it is and I absolutely love that about her. We all need that character in our lives.
How about your least favorite character?  What makes them less appealing to you?
Charlette is my least favorite because she is sneaky and doesn’t know the first thing about respect or true love. She wants what she wants and does whatever to get it, no matter the consequences.
What was the hardest part of writing your books?
Making sure that nothing is expected. A lot of the time I pick up a book to read and within the first few minutes I can predict how this story will play out. I want for my books to be different.
If you could change ONE thing about your novel, what would it be?  Why?
I would have then longer, especially the first one. It is a novella and looking back I should have made it a full novel length book.
Give us an interesting fun fact or a few about your book or series
All of the ladies in the series aside from Charlette, are apart of my personality. Emily is the scared girl who thinks she faces her demons but really only runs from them, Diana is the insecure girl that is often over looked and makes bad choices, and Suzie is the beast that comes out to protect those she loves. She is fearless when messed with, especially when it comes to her friends and family.
Whilst writing your book did you have much support from family and friends?
Unfortunately I hadn’t told much of my family whilst I was working on Discovered, wanting it to be a surprise but I received a lot of support from my fiance and the few other family members who did know.
Do you have any unique talents or hobbies?
I love to sing sing sing 🙂
What can we expect from you in the future?
More books for the cover series and I am hoping to start another series really soon. I will also be working on collaborating with other authors as well.
What can readers who enjoy your book do to help make it successful?
Leaving a review and sharing it goes a long long way.
Do you have any tips for readers or advice for other writers trying to get
published?
 1. Never give up. Put your mind to it and trust me it will happen.
2. Never get upset when you get negative reviews, take them, fix the problems and republish it necessary. It’s all for your benefit.
Did you learn anything from writing your book?
I have learned that you have to take your raft seriously. Invest in yourself and others will invest in you. Pay for an editor, pay for advertising etc. It will help you in the end.
Is there anything else you would like to say?
Thank you so much for interviewing me and I am looking forward to an awesome writing year! 🙂
